Stranded in snow, Delhi, Rajasthan tourists rescued from Hamta January 27, 2021: Three tourists – two from Delhi and one from Rajasthan – who got lost in snow-covered jungle at Hamta above Manali on Tuesday night were rescued by the police with help of local volunteers. Police control room received an SOS call at 112 in the night time that some tourists have lost their way back to Manali in the snow-laden forests of Hamta. A team of two cops, two home guard jawans and a volunteer driver rushed to the expected location and started combing the area with help of three local residents. Kullu SP Gaurav Singh was quoted saying that the team searched for them at Sethan, Pandu Ropa, reservoir area and all possible locations for the whole night. “The search and rescue team successfully located them from about 2km below Sethan nullah in Hamta forest where they had stranded in the snow,” he said. The tourists were identified as Shahid, 32, Imran Khan, 22, both residents of Karol Bagh, New Delhi and Rehan, 12, resident of Rajasthan. “They were safely dropped at their hotel in Manali. We have been repeatedly requesting tourists not go to higher regions without hiring a local guide and return back on time. Getting stranded in bone chilling cold can be fatal,” he said. Another Avalanche hits Manali-Atal tunnel highway January 7, 2021: Another avalanche hit the Manali-Atal tunnel highway at MSP-6 between Solang and Dhundi on Thursday. Fortunately, nobody was harmed as the highway is closed due to snowfall for all kinds of vehicular movement. With almost all major and link roads including Kullu-Manali national highway blocked with landslides, hundreds of trees uprooted and no phone or internet access in many places, heavy rain and snowfall has wreaked havoc in Kullu-Manali. Despite all this, tourists are having fun in Manali as the town is receiving frequent snow. Manali and its nearby tourist places are covered with blanket of snow. This season the region has received more snow than last many years, which has cheered both hoteliers and tourists. However, district administration and police have issued advisory to the tourists that they should avoid night driving and should not go to higher areas. While a massive avalanche near Nehru Kund, about 7km from here, has blocked Manali-Solang highway, dozens of landslides along Kullu-Manali highway has blocked Manali-Chandigarh NH at multiple places since Thursday evening. Kullu-Manali bypass road was also blocked after landslide and collapsed trees but was thrown open in the noon. All the link roads connecting hundreds of villages have suffered damages following landslides. Landslides and collapsing of trees have damaged power transmission lines at many places, plunging large number of villages into darkness. Power supply to Manali town was cut after later afternoon. Manali and nearby hundreds of villages have no telephone connectivity since Wednesday night. These areas also have no internet for two days. However, connectivity was partially restored by private operators in some areas but BSNL network is completely dead. Landslides have damaged many houses and private land. Farms and orchards have been damaged at many places. Hundreds of fruit and wild trees have been uprooted. Kullu-Manali national highway has suffered the most losses because of extreme cutting of its edges for widening of the road. A week after heavy snowfall crippled life in Himachal, another spell of heavy snowfall in upper Himachal, including Manali and Lahaul-Spiti district and parts of Kinnaur district has affected normal life while avalanches have posed threat to both property and lives. An avalanche in Yangthang area of Lahaul has reportedly damaged three houses. No mishap was reported in the incident. While upper regions of state are getting snow, lower parts are lashed with rain. A fresh wave of cold has gripped the state as day temperature has plunged 5 to 6 degrees Celsius in 24 hours. Parts of Lahaul experienced blizzards and over 30cm of snow has accumulated since Thursday evening. District administration has decided to keep the schools close in the whole of Lahaul-Spiti district on Saturday. Both Kothi and Solang in Manali have received over 70cm of snow. Manali town received 6cm snow and over 40cm of snow has fallen in Keylong. Khadrala in Shimla received 24cm of snow. Kalpa in Kinnaur and Dalhousie in Chamba received 14 and 7cm of snow respectively. Jalori pass in Kullu has received 45cm more snow. Snowfall has again blocked a large number of roads in the state. All roads in Lahaul valley are blocked. Snowfall in Manali has cheered tourists. However, tourist movement to higher areas was stopped. Border Roads Organization (BRO) had cleared snow from 7km stretch between Keylong and Stingri and 10km stretch between Thirot and Udaipur but fresh snow has again blocked both the stretches. All other roads of the valley are lying blocked for days. There are reports of more avalanches in Lahaul valley.
