Rohtang Pass Permit
Rohtang permit is required for vehicles going to Rohtang for tourism purpose. Permit is not required for tourists but for all vehicles. Permits are limited and are issued online on first come first serve basis. Vehicles that have no permit would not be allowed to go beyond Gulaba. The permit system is started by Himachal government after directions from National Green Tribunal (NGT) which was concerned about increasing pollution on ecologically fragile Rohtang pass.
Visit official website of Rohtang Pass Permit here http://rohtangpermits.nic.in/ and fill in the required details, make payment and take printout.
No, you need to pay Rs 500 permit charges and Rs 50 congestion charges online through payment gateway at the end of the permit booking process.
The permit is included during off-season (July to December). Rohtang remains closed in winters from December to May. Availability of permit in peak summer season (May and June) becomes very difficult due to extremely high demand. We do not include taxi charges for Rohtang in peak season. However, if we succeed in getting permit, we include it to the package and charge taxi fare for Rohtang pass.
Snow
Snow in Manali is available from November till June. However, availability of snow totally depends on weather conditions and quantity of snowfall during winter months.
Rohtang pass, 51km from Manali, is the common spot to see snow in summer months. As road to Rohtang pass gets blocked with snow in winter months (December to mid-May), you can see snow at Solang valley, Gulaba, Kothi, even inside the Manali town or at the balcony of your hotel room from December to March.
