Fly Dining, the first such concept in Himachal which is claimed to be the world’s highest fly dining, has become a major tourist attraction here. A huge table with 24 seats that revolve 360 degrees are lifted above the ground with help of a crane. The setup with all the guests wearing seat belts and hosts tied to the harness belts can be lifted as high as 160ft. Not only tourists are enjoying the meal on the hanging dining table but they are also enjoying the scenic views of entire Manali town and snow-capped mountains from this height. “After Goa and Noida, this concept has been introduced to the mountains in the country for the first time,” FlyDining Manali owner Daman Kapoor said. “All required safety measures are being adopted. We hope that it will become a major tourist attraction in Manali. A large number of tourists are already experiencing the adventurous dining with us,” he said. Himachal Cabinet minister Govind Singh Thakur, who also enjoyed this thrilling experience on Tuesday, congratulated Kapoor for bringing this unique concept to Manali and advised him to introduce the same dining experience at Shimla. Jokingly he advised the owner to arrange kitty parties for women here so that they feel thrilled while gossiping and partying. The guest can book a seat or the complete table in any of the five available sessions – two lunch, one sundowner and two dinner – each for 45 minutes. First tribal festival “Margul Utsav” concludes in Lahaul Updated on May 20, 2022 A first-ever colourful tribal festival “Margul Utsav” was held at Udaipur in Himachal’s Lahaul-Spiti district with participation of cultural troops and other artists from across the state. Margul Utsav was organised by the Lahaul-Spiti administration in association with the department of tourism with the aim to promote cultural tourism in the valley. The festival, with participation from all the tribal regions of the state including Lahaul, Spiti, Pangi, Bharmaur and Kinnaur, was organised from May 18 to 20. The cultural troops presented folk dances, folk music, dresses, ornaments and other folk arts. Local cuisines were served while competitions of traditional games like chooh gumza, thippu, chholo, bangtahar and langten were also held. Participation of both men and women was ensured. A large number of tourists visited Udaipur to witness the unique culture of Himachal. The festival was inaugurated and concluded by tribal development minister Ram Lal Markanda. Lahaul-Spiti deputy commissioner Neeraj Kumar said Margul festival will now be made an annual state-level event in Lahaul valley to promote tribal culture, arts, games, local products, dresses, cuisines and fairs. Solang Valley or Solang Nala, 13 km north of Manali town on Manali-Atal Tunnel highway, is a popular tourist destination of Manali. The valley is often referred to as adventure valley due to availability of almost all the adventure sports like skiing, paragliding, zorbing, horseriding, ATV (all-terrain-vehicles), snow scooter, mini-bunjee, grass skiing, river crossing, trekking, wall climbing etc. Solang is one of the most visited tourist destinations of Himachal Pradesh. The service is known as Atal tunnel ticket, which is actually a ticket to enter some of the restricted areas of the tunnel for education and knowledge purpose. Snow Marathon Lahaul is being organised in India for the first time ever with participation of nearly 100 runners from across the nation who will be running on snow covered terrains of Himachal’s Lahaul valley on March 26. The event is being organised in association of Lahaul-Spiti administration, Reach India and a group of adventure sports enthusiasts from different parts of the country. Runners from other countries are not participating this season due to travel restrictions. Besides Indian armed forces, marathoners from many states are taking part in the Snow Marathon Lahaul. As Lahaul-Spiti administration has announced to make it an annual event that will be held every year in winter season, runners from other nations will also be allowed from next year onwards. Lahaul has been chosen for this extreme winter sports event as the valley remains covered with snow for most time of the year. Don’t try to go beyond Darcha: Police warns tourists Updated on March 09, 2022 As some tourists are trying to go towards avalanche-prone high altitude areas with deep snow, Lahaul-Spiti police have asked them not to take risks and enjoy snow in the lower areas of the district. Police have advised tourists that the road is open upto Darcha but it is completely blocked beyond it. Police warned that if any tourist will forcibly go beyond Darcha, he may have to face strict legal action. Police said the offenders will be liable for punishment with imprisonment or a compounding fee of Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 under section 115 of HP Police Act. Stranded for four days, 100 tourists with 23 vehicles rescued from Lahaul Updated on January 7, 2022 A large number of tourists who had been stranded at Sissu and other parts in Lahaul valley after snowfall on Tuesday have been rescued by the cops along with their 23 vehicles on Friday. Nearly 100 tourists, who were staying in Lahaul, were being rescued on Tuesday but had to return back to Sissu from Atal tunnel as south portal of the tunnel towards Manali had received very heavy snow. The road was completely blocked. The tourists were staying in hotels in Sissu, 6km from northern portal of the tunnel. The 45-year-old woman from Mandi district of Himachal, whose samples were sent to Delhi for whole-genome sequencing to confirm Omicron on December 18, was tested negative for Covid-19 on December 24 while her sample for Omicron was found positive on December 26. This lone case is expected to have no impact on tourism as the woman is in home isolation and her three contacts have also been found to be negative. Alpine skier Aanchal Thakur has bagged second medal for India in international skiing event held at European country Montenegro on Thursday. She is the only winter sports athlete from India to have achieved this feat. Aanchal, who is struggling to qualify for Winter Olympics 2022, had two races on Thursday at Kolasin ski resorts during International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski Jamaican Championship. She bagged bronze medal in the first race in women alpine skiing category. She told over a phone call that she was expecting even better performance in the second race. The medal ceremony will be held in the late evening (Montenegro time). Aanchal Thakur will compete in four more races at Kolasin, Montenegro, from December 27 to 30. The young athlete is hoping for gold or silver in the remaining races. “The season started very late for me and my brother Himanshu this year due to many reasons. We could not participate in some of the FIS events to earn the required FIS points to qualify for the Olympics. Earlier we trained in Austria and then in Sweden. From Sweden, we headed to Montenegro for this event. My first race today was satisfactory and I could finish at third place. I’ve a few more races in my hand. Now I’m eying gold or silver,” Aanchal said. Arif Khan, who has already qualified for Olympics, is also participating in the competitions.
