MANALI: Himachal government has sounded an alert following heavy snowfall warning in mid and high hills and heavy rains in low hills till January 6 by meteorological department. High hills of Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba and Kangra are getting fresh snowfall since Friday evening. The temperature in state which had increased by 4 to 5 degrees C in last few days has again dipped. The snowline is descending down and there are strong possibilities of heavy snowfall in next 48 hours. Kullu administration has advised its residents and tourists to take extra precaution and stop unnecessary movement towards landslide and avalanche prone areas. Kullu deputy commissioner Yunus said there is warning for heavy snowfall and rain in district till Sunday. “People are requested not to go to higher regions. Administration is equipped with all required machinery to deal with the snow. All the government departments and district disaster management authority are on an alert.” Solang, Gulaba, Rohtang and higher regions of Kullu witnessed snowflakes in the evening. As the state, including Manali and Shimla, have received mild snow in December, people are praying for heavy snowfall. State meteorological centre, Shimla, has issued heavy snowfall and rain warning from January 4 to 6 and predicted normal snowfall on January 7. Keylong was the coldest place in Himachal recording minus 11 degrees C night temperature.
