MANALI: High hills of Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, Kangra and Shimla are receiving more snow, triggering cold wave conditions in the state. Weatherman has issued alert for heavy snowfall in Himachal on January 31. Lahaul-Spiti and Kullu administrations have sounded alert following heavy snowfall warning in next two days. Lahaul has witnessed over a dozen avalanches in last few days. Possibility of avalanches has increased after more snowfall warning. In Kullu, many roads are lying closed since last spell of snowfall. More snowfall is expected to throw life out of gear in entire district. High hills of the state are again getting more snow. Nearly 10cm of fresh snow has fallen on Solang slopes where national skiing and snowboarding championships will start from February 2. Manali and Keylong also witnessed some snowflakes. Lahaul-Spiti deputy commissioner Ashwani Kumar Chawdhary has requested residents to avoid unnecessary movement towards isolated areas. “Residents are advised not to go close to avalanche prone areas. All the departments are on alert,” he said. Kullu deputy commissioner Yunus said PWD’s machines are on standby and the officials are asked not to let the highway and major roads be blocked with snow. “Tourists are asked to stay close to the hotels and not to go to higher areas during snowfall. We are capable of handling any kind of disasaster,” he added. Local met office has warned of heavy snowfall on Thursday. There is forecast for snowfall till February 2. The residents of upper Himachal have made arrangements to deal with the inclement weather.
